"In the neon lights of the night we find the memories that never fade." -ChatGPT
Tokyo's nightlife is a captivating universe that melds vibrant energy, futuristic lights, and an endless array of entertainment options. Whether in bustling districts like Shibuya and Shinjuku or the sophisticated bars of Ginza, Tokyo's nightlife scene is marked by creative eccentricity, innovative design, and traditional hospitality. As the metropolis comes alive after dark, a dazzling kaleidoscope of neon lights, karaoke bars, chic clubs, and hidden izakayas unfolds, immersing travelers in a world that truly reveals its full glory at sunset.
Izakayas, bars, clubs and curfews
Tokyo, the bustling capital of Japan, takes on a dynamic of its own after dark. The nightlife in this metropolis is as diverse as the city itself and offers something for every taste and preference.

Izakayas: tradition meets modernity
The streets of Tokyo are lined with izakayas, cozy establishments that are a combination of bar and restaurant. Here both locals and visitors come together to share small dishes and enjoy traditional drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Sake, Japanese rice wine and beer flow freely as you dine on edamame, yakitori skewers and sushi. One of the best areas to enjoy the traditional izakaya experience is the Shinjuku district, where numerous small eateries are hidden in the narrow streets.

Bars: From spectacular to hidden
Tokyo is home to an impressive variety of bars to suit every taste. For breathtaking views of the city, the New York Bar at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku offers a glamorous atmosphere. If you prefer something more intimate and mysterious, you can head to Golden Gai, a neighborhood in Shinjuku with tiny bars that often only accommodate a handful of guests. Here you can experience authentic Tokyo nightlife, off the beaten path.
-
Clubs: Rhythm in the City of Lights
Tokyo's club scene is known worldwide for its innovation and diversity. The Roppongi district is a hotspot for clubbers, with trendy locations such as "V2 Tokyo" or "Ageha", one of the largest clubs in the city. Music ranges from electronic to hip-hop to J-pop, and the clubs are known for pulsing until the early hours of the morning. Other great nightlife areas include Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ebisu.

Curfew and public transport: planning is everything
While Tokyo's nightlife offers an impressive range, night owls should keep an eye on the curfew. Japan has a nationwide curfew on bars and clubs, which varies depending on the prefecture. In Tokyo, in most cases, the curfew ends at midnight for bars and 5 a.m. for clubs. It is important to do your research in advance to avoid disappointment. When it comes to public transportation, night owls should keep in mind that the last trains often leave around midnight. Afterwards, night buses, taxis or, in some cases, night walks are available.

Tokyo's nightlife is a fascinating mix of tradition and modernity that shows the city in a different light. Whether in a traditional izakaya, a trendy bar or a vibrant club, nighttime discoveries in Tokyo promise unforgettable experiences for everyone who embarks on this adventure.
Important to know: Clubs in Japan are usually very expensive. Entry usually costs between 3,500 yen and 5,000 yen. Drinks average 1000 yen. This is usually because famous DJs play in Tokyo's clubs every night. Rock clubs are often cheaper here. Admission is often free for women.
Below are a few of my favorite clubs and bars in Tokyo. When making my selection, I attach particular importance to ensuring that the locations are not too touristy.
